At Insight Homes, we are focused on the Science of Comfort and building energy efficient homes. Many builders offer energy efficient or Low-E Windows (usually at an upgrade), but we know that all Low-E windows are not made equally. We decided to put our windows to the test by shining a sun lamp through four different types of windows and measuring heat transference in BTU (British Thermal Units) per hour. Watch below:
- Standard window with clear glass: 280 BTU/hour
- Builder upgrade Low-E window: 257 BTU/hour – A little bit better.
- Blackout blinds over upgrade Low- E window: 18 BTU/hour – Pretty good, but who wants to sit in the dark?
- Insight Homes Low-E Window: 6 BTU/hour – We have a winner!
